You heard the news about the massive wildfire in California just recently and you cannot deny the fact that this is scary to happen in New Jersey. As of this writing 24 are already dead some are missing, and hundreds of thousands are evacuated.
Take a look on what happened with a father and child who died together in a wildfire.
They never evacuated: White said authorities told her Mitchell’s body was found by the bed of his son.
“He was not going to leave his son behind. No matter what,” White told the Post. “It’s very hard. It’s like a ton of bricks just fell on me.”

So, the question here is how should a child react when a disaster comes in New Jersey? You are not sure but being ready is still the best to prevent bigger problems.
How to prepare your child for a disaster
First, you need to explain or say frankly the disaster that are coming in New Jersey like storms, drought, and so on. Just educate your child that calamities are real and a serious matter to learn. You do not need to teach the technical or scientific facts that are too heavy to absorb by a child. The basics information is enough for them to realize that preparation is a must.

Second, list the basic and important things to keep. Of course, your child cannot bring heavy stuffs so you can tell your children the most important and essential things to bring. National Weather Service has the list you can check but again it depends on your capacity and capability to own it.
Third, tell them actually how to react or what to do when there is already aa disaster. However, it is better to have the initiative or the proactive approach on this. as it is safer to act when a disaster is not yet around. Teaching your child to be proactive is the best way to avoid devastating events. As soon as you heard a news that a storm is coming that is the cue!
