According to Senate Democrats, there is already a bill or law to implement about child diet in New Jersey. The Senate Health, Human Services, and Senior Citizens Committee advanced legislation sponsored by Senator Joe Vitale that would require restaurants in New Jersey to offer healthier children’s meals that meet clear, evidence-based nutritional standards.
The bill, S-2977, would require chain restaurants with 20 or more locations that offer standardized menus to ensure that at least two children’s meals, or 25 percent of the children’s meals on the menu, meet specific nutritional criteria, including limits on calories, sodium, added sugars, saturated fat, and trans fat, while also requiring fruits or vegetables and a whole grain, lean protein, or low-fat dairy option.

This bill sets reasonable, science-based standards that support parents, promote healthier choices, and help establish balanced lifelong eating habits for our children.”
