No Cases of Chikungunya Virus in New Jersey 2025. No reported cases of locally acquired chikungunya in New Jersey in 2025

“Chikungunya is a disease caused by a virus that is spread to people through the bite of an infected mosquito. Cases have been found in people who live in New Jersey, but these were people who were infected while traveling to an area with chikungunya. The most common symptoms are fever and severe joint pain, often in the hands and feet. Other symptoms may include headache, muscle pain, or rash. There is no treatment other than medicine to treat the fever and pain. There is no vaccine so the best way to prevent chikungunya is to prevent mosquito bites and avoid travel to areas with ongoing chikungunya outbreaks.” DOH NJ
