New Jersey Out-of-Network Billing Rights

New Jersey Out-of-Network Billing Rights

Information about New Jersey protections for certain out-of-network services and separate provider bills.

New Jersey law may protect patients from owing more than their in-network cost sharing for certain inadvertent out-of-network services and urgent or emergency services.

When protections may apply

Protections can apply when covered services are received from an out-of-network professional at an in-network or covered facility without a meaningful opportunity to select an in-network professional, and in certain urgent or emergency circumstances.

Outside laboratories and suppliers

Kinder may use an independent laboratory or supplier. That organization is separate from KPUC and may bill independently, but its bill remains subject to applicable federal and New Jersey billing protections and its payer contracts.

Before receiving non-emergency care

Confirm network participation with your health plan. Network status may vary by plan, product, clinician, service, or location.

Questions or complaints

Contact your health plan first. New Jersey consumer information and complaint routes are available from the Department of Banking and Insurance. You may also call Kinder at 732-917-4454 regarding a Kinder bill.
